Dinosaur Fossil Cookies

Super super fun, G loves to bake with me and he got to use the mixer for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Direction

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Scoop out ice cream scoop sized dough balls and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  5. Bake 4-6 minutes in the preheated oven, or until light golden.
  6. Pull out doughy cookies for dinosaur imprinting. Take your Dino and press it into the soft cookies.
  7. Put back into the oven for another 5-7 minutes.
  8. Pull cookies out, and let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
  9. Dye the dinosaurs with food coloring if chosen to.

Dinosaur eggs

This week we focused on dinosaurs. I come from a family of just girls so this theme wasn’t really my thing. With that in mind, I’ll share our frozen dinosaur eggs.

Things you’ll need:

  • Balloons
  • Mini dinosaurs (I found them at Dollar Tree)
  • Water guns
  • Water faucet

I didn’t get any pictures while getting the dinosaurs into the balloons but lemme tell you, it isn’t easy. I ripped a couple of balloons in the process but I eventually got the hang of it. Fill them up like little water balloons, tie em off and stick them in the freezer.
Once I was sure they were frozen, we tore the balloon off and went outside. It’s was a chilly 115° F today, so this was a perfect activity!

G had no idea what he was supposed to do with them, but then I handed him the water gun, it all became clear.

Even with it being so hot, it took some time to melt all the ice. We ironically shot the eggs for a whole, and then dipped them in luke warm water. Which helped a lot and G thought it was hilarious because he was splashing me. We finally got them to start hatching.

Still it was taking a whole, and we got a little bored. We definitely had a sweet and short water gun fight waiting on the eggs to finish melting. This also helped with the heat!

About 20 minutes later, we had baby dinosaurs! And of course we had to play with them before going inside.

Frozen dino eggs were a big hit! We will probably be doing this one again.

Till next time bloggers
